Action Needed to Pass Healthy Workplace Bill in New York State

June 9th, 2014

From New York Healthy Work Place Advocates
The 2013-2014 Session of the NYS Legislature ends next week on Thursday, June 19, 2014. During these last eight days that the NYS legislature meets, a few select pieces of legislation will be passed. Your recent calls resulted last week in the Healthy Workplace Bill being passed in the Senate Labor Committee on June 3, 2014.

In the Senate, the bill S3863 must next pass through the Senate Finance Committee and then go to the floor for a vote. In the Assembly, the bill A4965 must next pass through the Assembly Labor Committee and then go to the floor for a vote.

Please call to tell the five key NYS legislators listed below that you want the Healthy Workplace Bill (bill numbers: S3863 / A4965) to go to a floor vote before session ends.

#KochParty on Park Avenue, New York City, Today, June 5

June 5th, 2014

Message from the host of: “Koch Party on Park Avenue”
To: Greggory w Morris
The following is a message from the host of Koch Party on Park Avenue, the MoveOn Action that you signed up to attend:

Greetings!

We’re looking forward to joining you tonight for the Koch Party outside David Koch’s Park Avenue apartment, to expose the Koch brothers’ attacks on our democracy, our environment, our voting rights, and our social safety net.

Have a camera phone? Please bring it and be ready to snap photos, take video, and share with all your friends, using hashtag #KochParty

We’ll gather at 6 p.m. today at the NW corner of Park Avenue and W. 71st St. The rain has stopped and the sun has come out–and we’re going to have fun.

This is the kick-off to a summer of activism. We’re expecting media coverage, so having a strong turnout is key. Your presence matters!

See you there!

Update From New York Healthy Workplace Advocates About Healthy Workplace Bill

June 4th, 2014

From Mike Schlicht, NYHWA Co-Coordinator:
The State of Tennessee has passed the first bill to address workplace bullying but for those of us in New York State familiar with the Workplace Violence Prevention Law, policies mean little even if you are a public employee which this law only pertains to. As some of us have found out the hard way, the NYS Workplace Violence Prevention Law, if, and when it is enforced by a public employer, can and is used to target people in abusive work environments to react to intentional and malicious acts of workplace bullying. [That is, targets of abuse are baited by abusers and/or their flunkies].
