More About NYS Healthy Workplace Bill S3863 (Workplace Anti-Bullying Bill)
Saturday, June 15th, 2013The email I sent to NYS Senator John DeFrancisco, Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, is better than the previous one sent to several senators on the Labor Committee of the New York State Senate. It’s more accurate.

Dear Senator John DeFrancisco, Chair of the Senate Finance Committee,I am a tenured assistant journalism professor at Hunter College and I am writing to ask you to put S3863 on the Senate Finance Committee agenda before the legislative session ends. The workplace bullying that I have witnessed and experienced at Hunter is the most profane in my journalism career as a reporter and teacher.

New York State Healthy Workplace Bill S3863 (Workplace Anti-Bullying Bill)
Thursday, June 13th, 2013I posted the following on the Hunter College Listserv, which is the main listserv for the College. Hopefully, its obviously explanatory.
So:
I was up in Albany early in the fall semester for my first lobbying efforts to support this NYS workplace anti-bullying bill with professors from several campuses around the state. Lobbying can be empowering. We were joined by serious activists. More about this later.
I sent the following off to New York State Senator José Peralta, Minority Whip and the rest of the labor committee members:

More Info About the Healthy Workplace Bill
Thursday, June 6th, 2013The Healthy Workplace Bill was referred to the Senate Finance Committee in the next step of the legislative process. The Chair of the Senate Finance Committee is Senator John DeFranciso and he represents parts of the Syracuse area. NYHWA would like to setup a meeting with him at the District office in the very near future to speak with him about the bill. NYHWA is looking for constituents of his, people who work in his district and those who are from the Greater Syracuse area to speak briefly about their workplace bullying experience as we ask for him to place the bill on the agenda for a vote.

Ode to a D:F/M Legacy
Sunday, June 2nd, 2013It was several years ago that Colleague Peter Parisi, inspired by a muse yet to be understood or identified – but I have suspicions that it is as old as time itself – emailed our D:F/M Colleagues that he had decided that the WORD, a collaborative creation between me and my students, and a primary teaching tool, awarded several grants from the College, the FORD Foundation and others, with a stellar reputation and track record for helping students with career decisions, was passé and that it was time for the department to support the Hunts Point Express which had been started by Colleague Bernard Stein.
I still have my copy of the Parisi email.

The Hunts Point Express on Editorial Alert?
Tuesday, May 7th, 2013An URL of the previous blog below (The Slippery Ethical Slope of the Hunts Point Express) was posted Monday on the The Hunts Point Express facebook page. Lo and behold, it was no longer there yesterday. In fact, the The Hunts Point Express on online is not accepting comments either.
Uh Oh! The plot thickens.
