William C. Thompson and several heavyweight City and State Democratic pols showed up at this hip East Harlem bar after the debate. The answer (actually a response) to the Who Won? should be forthcoming. This writer wants to see what the big dailies will be splashing tomorrow.

The Nobel Prize was obviously awarded to Obama because he was viewed as the key figure working for world peace. The  United States has been a military cop violating ethical and legal human rights standards for the past eight years. He made it clear during his campaign and in what he has been tying to accomplish since entering office that he is a peacemaker. This does not mean that he can control events – stop other nations resisting peace.

Paraphrasing NY Times Editorial, October 9, 2009: The left yowled that the Nobel committee gave the prize to a wartime president. The right yowled that Obama sold out the country with his diplomacy. The band of George W. Bush loyalists, dwindling, of course, yowled that Obama has not  ended the wars in Afghanistan and in Iraq.

Blogging As Stimulus Poll Teleconference Press Conference Proceeds:
Americans’ opinions about the federal government’s $787 billion stimulus package and its impact on the mired economy vary sharply among racial and ethnic groups, according to a survey released today, with ethnic Americans more likely than whites to say it is a “good thing.â€
The survey, called “Gauging the Impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act,†found that 67 percent of Latinos and Native Americans, 62 percent of Asian Americans, and 84 percent of African Americans think the stimulus is good for their families or communities. By comparison, just 45 percent of white Americans see it positively. Overall, 54 percent of all Americans think the stimulus effort is positive.
The survey, which was commissioned by New America Media, painted a portrait of Americans in economic hardship. Sixty percent of Latinos are worried about housing costs, 50 percent of Native Americans are concerned about food, clothing and medicine costs and more than 30 percent of blacks worried about losing their jobs.

Who Won the First Mayoral Debate? That’s Easy to Answer

The Daily News dubbed the first Mayoral debates the “brawl for the hall†but it was more of a minor skirmish. I call it a draw. They jabbed but neither pugilist landed a knockout blow. The debate, held at El Museo del Barrio in East Harlem, was the first time both candidates met nose to nose and marked Thompson’s first video-true introduction to New Yorkers.
Both faired poorly when asked about the low numbers of Latinos in their administrations, about 10 percent of their workforce. Thompson said 60 percent of his workers were people of color and, in what was the funniest moment of the debate, Bloomberg said in Spanish that he would increase the actual numbers of minorities tomorrow (which is today).
