I posted a response:
Article shortcomings: AP doesn’t provide her major, GPA, number of rejections, explicit or implicit institutional promises about the value of enrolling in Monroe; nor does it provide contextual material (typical for this kind of story). Etcetera.
A silly story.
However, in light of the Great Recession, this is a great idea for WORD stories about what Hunter students believe about the value of their majors. Personally, though, I don’t have all the facts, I wouldn’t be surprised if she won big bucks if: She was a journalism/media major with a decent GPA and, especially, if she hadn’t been informed in her years at Monroe that if she didn’t have a good portfolio of published content she had little chance at a journalism career or a job.
Journalism programs without clear direction and expectations communicated to their students should be savaged.
Great idea for a blog, too. Great idea, great idea.

Oops, in a previous email, I mistakenly wrote, “Journalism programs without clear direction and expectations communicated to their students should be savaged.”
I meant “re-evalued.”
Apologies,
There will be follow-ups.
