Paraphrasing NY Times Editorial, October 9, 2009: The left yowled that the Nobel committee gave the prize to a wartime president. The right yowled that Obama sold out the country with his diplomacy. The band of George W. Bush loyalists, dwindling, of course, yowled that Obama has not  ended the wars in Afghanistan and in Iraq.
Yowling. Yowling. Yowling in Peoria.
So: Scott London, co-editor of Nobel Lectures in Peace, appearing on the News Hour with Jim Lehrer, said in response to a question by interviewer Jeffrey Brown, “We know that they’re trying to send a message.” He was talking about the five-members of the committee that awarded the prize to Obama.
Message?
“He definitely deserved it, now he has to earn it,”Â
Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter (also a Nobel laureate), said on in another segment of the Lehrer news hours. He has redefined America’s relationship to the world and improve its image, Brzezinski also said.Â
Walter Russell Mead of the Council on Foreign Relations, was interviewed along with Brzezinski and agreed.
