From SPJ: “The Mark of Excellence Awards deadline is January 26. With a few weeks to go, why not take time at the beginning of the semester or quarter to submit your work in a national contest from the Society of Professional Journalists?

“A Mark of Excellence Award is a great way to boost resumés. The distinguished work honored in this contest shows dedication to and passion for journalism. Your hard work should be recognized! Those nights tied to a keyboard or camera were not in vain. Our online submission process makes everything easy and efficient. Read the rules so you know what category is right for you. Advisers may submit their students’ work. If you have any questions, contact Lauren Rochester at (317) 927-8000 ext. 210.

Despite major obstacles, Hunter undergrads win more national and regional journalism competitions than any other college in the metro area. [That’s for undergraduate competitions primarily but not exclusively and that’s been over a few years.] Imagine what would happen if there was a serious journalism/media effort spearheaded by instructors instead of students?

So much for that gripe.
