CNN Quashes Watchdog Group’s Ad Campaign

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

CNN announced on Tuesday that it would not air ads produced by the media watchdog group, Media Matters. The group’s ads pressure CNN to direct Lou Dobbs away from further questioning the legitimacy of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate.

The host’s now infamous “birther conspiracy” broadcasts struck a chord with racist paranoiacs around the country when he insisted that Obama produce his original birth certificate for the sake of what Dobbs terms “transparency.” (more…)

Howie Kurtz’s “Reliable Sources” on CNN: Bravo

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

His CNN segment this morning about the news reporting and commentating on the Cambridge-Obama Never Ending Story (So Far) was exceptional, I believe, and so informative I’m planning to use transcripts of the show for my J-classes.

I also liked an earlier “CNN’s Howard Kurtz Criticizes CNN’s Lou Dobbs For Giving Airtime To ‘Birther’ Conspiracies.” No attempt here to comment or summarize. The serious should go to the source.

A WORD Update

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

I’ve been experimenting with a variety of strategies regarding media devices and so-called social networking media like blogging, youtube, facebook, myspace, UWIRE, twitter, Current TV, et. al., so that, one, my classroom instruction, and two, my professional interests/goals, can try to keep up with the burgeoning technological advances in communication, i.e., the dissemination of news and news-like information.

Subject: Signs of the Times project (re)published – thank you!

Hi there! You’re getting this note because you were featured in an interactive multimedia storytelling project called “Signs of the times.” It ran on Tuesday but there were some problems with how the interactive piece displayed on external workstations (outside our newsroom). The problems have been fixed and you should be able to see it now. Check it out, send it around and let folks know! It turned out great and I thank you all for your amazing contributions.

Thanks again, and we appreciate your contributions!
