Commute PATH, Train, October 30, Friday, 11:32 A.M

Can I take their picture?

Can I take their picture?

Getting better at interacting with commuters to get pictures. Asked politely. Lighting not so good (see below) and shot with flash (which is a no-no on NYT subways) but don’t know about PATH.

Light not so good.

Light not so good.

Had what might have been breakthrough of sorts Thursday, October 29, 299.47 class, which has been sluggish about COMMUTE assignment for hunterword.com. A feature writing student listening to my recollection of a confrontation/altercation on an uptown A several years ago (when some black students were beating up on a Hispanic student whom they knew) recalled an uptown A experience when a knife fight broke out and she was huddling, trying to protect a pregnant woman whom she eventually walked home.

When I said in class, QMfE, “That would make a great introduction to your”WORD COMMUTE, electricity surge through the classroom. This was a Teaching Moment.

Students resisting the note taking requirement of the COMMUTE assignment. Still difficult for some if not many to believe that if they engage this assignment sluggishly, the sluggishness will be reflected in their final grade.

Resistance is futile.
