Does anyone know the last time a New Jersey newspaper won a Pulitzer?

I had to ask the question.

I sent the request to the Region 1 Director of the Society of Professional Journalists (because I was on her email list) and got the following response:

On July 5 I sent the same request to Catherine Langley, Communications Manager  of the New Jersey Press Association.  It’s membership is much bigger than the SPJ Region 1 chapter. I got an “out-of-office” reply [she was on vacation].

And here’s more of the question originally asked: Does anyone know when was the last time a New Jersey newspaper won a:

    My friend Richard Aregood won a well-deserved Pulitzer for his editorials in the Newark Star-Leger in 1985. Gil Spencer won the same award for his editorials in the Trentonian in 1971. Bill Caldwell of the Bergen Record won for commentary in 1971.

    More recently, Stephen P. Breen of the Asbury Park Press won for editorial cartooning in 1998; Matt Rainer of the Star-Ledger won for feature photography in 2001 and the Star-Ledger staff won for breaking news in 2005.

    The Star-Ledger was also a finalist for breaking news in 2001. Robin Gaby Fisher of the Star-Ledger was a finalist for feature writing in 2001 and 2005. Borzou Daragahi of the Star-Ledger was a finalist for international reporting in 2005.

    Probably there are others. That’s what a quick search of the Pulitzer site yielded. Not bad for places “sandwiched between NYC and Philadelphia.”

    Note: Bernard Stein is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who teaches in the Department of Film and Media Studies at Hunter College, City University of New York.

    City/State: Newark New Jersey
    Television Entertainment (Non-Musical): A Peabody Award to “The Play Of The Week,” WNTA-TV, Newark, New Jersey, with a bow to Ely Landau for sponsoring and developing an outstanding dramatic program.
